Chapter 22; v.2

וְאִם־לֹא קָרוֹב אָחִיךָ אֵלֶיךָ וְלֹא יְדַעְתּוֹ וַֽאֲסַפְתּוֹ אֶל־תּוֹךְ בֵּיתֶךָ וְהָיָה עִמְּךָ עַד דְּרֹשׁ אָחִיךָ אֹתוֹ וַֽהֲשֵֽׁבֹתוֹ לֽוֹ

And if your brother is not near you, or if you know him not, then you shall bring it to your own house, and it shall be with you until your brother seeks after it, and you shall restore back to him.

And if your brother is not close to you’ – if between you and your brother there is no love and good fellowship, as is proper and fitting, know that the reason is that ‘you do not know him’. You are not interested in knowing him and getting to know him. A lack of mutual understanding is the root cause of the lack of love and brotherhood.(Al Hatorah- Rabbi Mordekhai HaCohen)

“ואם לא קרוב אחיך אליך” – אם אין בינך לבינו קירוב לבבות, אהבה ואחוה, כראוי וכיאות, דע שסיבת הדבר הוא “ולא ידעתו”, שאינך מתעניין לדעתו ולהכירו, כדי להבין איש אחיו. העדר הבנה הדדית היא אם כל חוסר קירבה, אהדה ואהבה הדדית.
