Chapter  28;v.35

  1. And it shall be upon Aaron to minister; and his sound shall be heard when he goes in to the holy place before the Lord, and when he comes out, that he should not die.

A scholar must retain an eighth (i.e. a small amount) of pride”, says the Talmud (Sotah 5a).

Perhaps the usage of the number eight is not accidental. According to tradition, Moses himself wrote the last eight verses of the Bible. The eighth of these verses reads: “And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great and awesome deeds which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.”

Even though Moses was the most humble person ever to live, nevertheless, in public, amongst the people – לעיני כל ישראל – he had to show show force of personality. Otherwise, the people would not have obeyed him.(Rabbi Moshe Pollack)

In the Tent of Meeting outside the veil, which is before the Testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord; it shall be a statute forever to their generations on behalf of the people of Israel.

There should be an eternal flame in the heart of every Jew. However, this flame of faith must exist not only in the ‘tent of meeting’ – the synagogue or house of study, or during the time of prayer, but also ‘outside of the curtain’ – in the street, at work, in one’s mundane pursuits, and in one’s relationships with others. (Al HaTorah- Rabbi Mordekhai HaCohen)
